Furnitex Show 2015

Furnitex Show 2015

Furnitex is the biggest furniture show in Australia and this year I was approached by the Forest Products Commission to create a show piece featuring West Australian Timbers. I designed and made Hi-Phi, a hall table for the show. Hi-Phi is an open-ended, asymmetrical hall table whose proportions are based on the phi ratio. Inspiration for me began with the open-ended form and then sacred geometry provided the solution to the structure of the design. These aspects were used to form a grid from which small-sectioned Marri lengths could be laid in a pattern which best utilises the strength of the timber. The resulting design at first glimpse may look chaotic but with contemplation a geometric order emerges.
